Abakaliki, April 15, 2021 (NAN) Nigerian
nurses under the aegis of University Graduates of Nursing Science Association
(UGONSA) has urged Nigerians especially health workers to ensure they get
vaccinated.
The association commended the Federal
Government for providing COVID-19 vaccines to Nigerians, and urged Nigerians to
dissuade negative speculations about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Chief Solomon Egwuenu, the National President
of the association told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in
Abakaliki that the association has been tracking the effects of the vaccination
since it started and can authoritatively say that the benefits outweigh any
risk by far. According to him, most Nigerians who have been vaccinated
experienced no adverse reaction.
He commended the Federal Government for the
procurement of the vaccines and urged it to ensure that the vaccines get to all
the nooks and crannies of the nation to ensure a healthy life for
Nigerians.
Egwuenu encouraged members of the association
and other health personnel to take the vaccine without delay for their safety
since they work in close contact with patients.
On his part, the association's National
Secretary, Nurse Philip Eteng, noted that the Nigerian health system can be
further compromised by a resurgence of COVID-19 and urged Nigerians to
disregard COVID-19 conspiracy theories.
He, therefore, said that the vaccine was a
welcome development and advised Nigerians to shun negative comments concerning
the vaccine and its potency and urged health workers especially nurses, who
stay closest with patients round-the-clock, to get vaccinated to
forestall COVID-19 related clinical hazards. (NAN)
