UGONSA is committed to making "The Nursing Scope" evolve as a leading African nursing journal that can sustain itself in the long run. In the process of revitalizing the journal, the association funded the journal wholly from its meagre funds. This enabled the publication of 5 Issues over the past two years free of charge, and the 6th issue will come out before the end of 2023. With the unassailable efforts of our committed editorial board members, ably led by our most respected Professor of Nursing, Professor Ijeoma Ehiemere, we have been able to re-index our print ISSN and secure an online ISSN afresh from ISSN international. We have also achieved indexing for digital object identifiers (DOI) through Crossref, the world's leading DOI indexing body for journals. The association is currently pursuing indexing of the journal with SCOPUS. Its goal is to achieve at least one notable indexing every year for the next five years while expanding and streamlining publication time and volumes. The milestone achieved so far would not have been possible without the support of Nurses and Midwives, especially UGONSA members.
Because it takes a lot to achieve and maintain
indexing, the association wishes to activate the first phase of the
self-sufficiency pathway for the journal. While it will still be paying
subsidies to keep publication costs very low, authors will forthwith be
required to pay a subsidized token of N20000 (twenty thousand naira) if
submitting a manuscript from Nigeria and $50 (fifty dollars) if submitting a
manuscript from abroad. Henceforth, we shall be accepting manuscripts
continuously throughout the year. An Issue will be periodically released once
we have enough manuscripts for an Issue in our article bank. We are poised to
go beyond our traditional two issues per volume starting from 2024. UGONSA has
done its part by creating this uncommon publication platform for Nurses and
Midwives. The ball is now in the court of Nurses and Midwives to utilize and
grow the platform. We, therefore, invite the heads of Department (HOD) of
Nursing, Principals of Schools of Nursing, our Academics, Clinicians, and the
entire nursing community to make publication in the journal a prioritized
affair. The Nursing Scope is an open-access journal. To access published
articles, visit the journal’s website, https://thenursingscope.org/
, and click on view articles. To download the articles, you have to subscribe
“free of charge” and download as many articles as you want, all “free of
charge”. UGONSA…Make a Positive Change!!!
